The Norwegian claimed a sensational five goal haul at the Etihad as Pep Guardiola’s side overwhelmed the Germans 7-0 on the night to secure an 8-1 Champions League last 16 aggregate win.
It took Haaland’s overall tally of goals for the season to 39 and so saw him become the Club’s all-time leading scorer in a single season, breaking Tommy Johnstone’s record of 38 which was set back in the 1928/29 campaign.
Haaland also became just the third player in history – and the first for nine years – to score five goals in a single UEFA Champions League game.
He now has 33 goals in 25 Champions League games, reaching the 30-goal milestone in fewer matches than any other player in the competition’s history and is also the youngest player to reach 30 goals in the history of the competition (22y 236d).

And for City and Lionesses legend Houghton, who was a special guest on Tuesday’s Matchday Live show, Haaland’s huger and desire means he is only going to go on rewriting the record books.
“The way he is playing I don’t think you can predict the ceiling for where Haaland will go,” Houghton declared.
“That performance there just showed how ruthless he is and his disappointment at not scoring a double hat-trick just shows how ambitious he is and he just wants to be the best.”
That point was echoed by fellow special guest Paul Dickov who pointed to the striker’s predatory instinct and desire for more.
“The thing I loved the most was he was devastated to be taken off as he wanted the double hat-trick,” Dickov declared.
“That just shows the hunger and desire that he has got.

“Man or boy, as he is still only 22 years old, to break all sorts of records in March, and breaking all sorts of records is incredible and he’s just going to continue doing that.
“It’s not luck though. Its anticipation and it’s about being in the right place at the right time. His first instinct is always to go in and follow the ball.
“The hunger to score goals is there. He’s always on his toes in and around the box as he always believes he will get a chance.”
With City fighting for silverware on three fronts with an FA Cup quarter-final at home to Burnley next up on Saturday, coemption for places is intensifying.
And Houghton believes the fact that everyone is fit and trying to press their claims will only further drive our quest for success as we enter the decisive final few months of the campaign.
“I think to have a fully fit squad with the calibre of players that we have is frightening going into the crucial last part of the season where every game is a must win one, its so important,” Houghton added.
“You could see on Tuesday all of the players who came on from the bench were wanting to impress.
“The games coming thick and fast so there are going to be changes and I’m sure everyone is focused not just on the Champions League but on the league and the FA Cup too.”
