The run stretches all the way back to 2012/13 after third round elimination in 2011/12.
That is the longest ongoing record of any side in the country, with Tottenham Hotspur boasting a record of 10 straight appearances in the fourth round.
Manchester United will join Spurs on 10 should they defeat Wigan Athletic this evening.
The longest run of successive fourth round appearances is 24, most recently done by Chelsea between 1998-99 to 2021-22.
During that time we have won the competition twice – in 2018/19 and last season – and been runners-up once.
It was our 69th win in the third round of the FA Cup, having lost 30 and drawn 30 of our ties at this stage.
City reached the last 32 of this year’s competition with a comprehensive defeat of Darren Moore’s Championship strugglers.
Pep Guardiola’s side registered an incredible 84% possession, completing 911 passes. 743 of those came in Huddersfield’s half, showing just how relentless we were in terms of attacking our visitors’ goal.
That led to 18 shots on the Terriers goal but only seven on target. We comfortably outperformed the expectation in front of goal, amassing just 1.58xG for our five goals.
We also had the edge off the ball, winning 54% of the duels and completing seven of our 13 attempted dribbles.
Five-star entertainers
City hit at least five goals in a game for the 42nd time under Pep Guardiola.
The Catalan has been in charge at the Etihad for 443 matches, meaning we score five goals in a game every 10 and a half fixtures.
Of all Premier League clubs, City are by far and away the most free scoring. Liverpool are second in terms of five or more goals a game, doing so 19 times since the start of the 2016/17 season.
Foden’s FA Cup record
Phil Foden loves the FA Cup.
He’s the only player to score in the tournament proper in each of the last six seasons after his double against Huddersfield yesterday.
He scored three times last season – once against Chelsea and two in a starring performance at Bristol City.
In 2021/22, he found the net in the quarter-final win at Southampton and there were strikes against Birmingham City and Cheltenham in 2020/21.
2019/20 saw a third round goal against Port Vale and the run began in 2018/19 with one against Rotherham and then two in the win at Newport County.
King Kev returns
Kevin De Bruyne enjoyed his first competitive action since August and received the kind of reception reserved only for legends.
The Belgian is one of the greatest players in Premier League history already and now there’s hope he can have a major impact as we pass the halfway mark of the campaign.
Even though this was only his third game of the season, he is way out in front of everyone else in Europe’s top five leagues in terms of assists since the start of last season. Our man has 30 to his name, with Mo Salah the nearest challenger on 24.
Clean sheets
Last year we conceded just one goal on our way to FA Cup glory and even that didn’t come until the Wembley final against Manchester United.
Had we won that game against our rivals without seeing them score, we would have become the first team since Bury in 1902/03 to win the tournament without conceding a goal.
Alas, it was not to be. However, with yesterday’s clean sheet we have started this year’s tournament in impressive fashion defensively as well as offensively.
Academy debutants
It was a special day for Jacob Wright on Sunday.
The 18-year-old midfielder has been part of our Academy since the Under-8s and impressed throughout his rise to senior football.
His debut is the latest landmark moment for the pathway at our Club, becoming the sixth player to make that step since the start of the 2022/23 season.
Academy graduates Rico Lewis, Shea Charles, Oscar Bobb, Micah Hamilton and Mahamadou Susoho have all made their senior debuts in that time.
When you factor in that they have joined Phil Foden in the current squad and the Premier League is filled with players such as Cole Palmer, Tommy Doyle and loanee James McAtee, you see the true strength of our production line.
