Bernardo Silva and Joao Cancelo were instrumental in Portugal’s 3-0 win over Sweden in the UEFA Nations League.

The Manchester City duo had a hand in two goals, with the midfielder firing home the first and Cancelo providing the pass from which Diogo Jota added the second.

It was the Liverpool forward who set up Bernardo’s opener, unselfishly squaring the ball for his unmarked team-mate to curl into the bottom corner from 12-yards and Cancelo’s exquisite delivery allowed Portugal to double their lead before the break.

The full-back’s superb cross-field pass dropped enticingly behind Sweden’s defence and into the path of Jota, who took a touch before firing into the bottom corner.

Jota got his second of the night to wrap up the points for Portugal, who had Ruben Dias at the heart of defence as they preserved their unbeaten record with a victory that keeps them top of Group A3.

In Bergamo, Nathan Ake played the entire 90-minutes as the Netherlands drew 1-1 with Italy.

The 25-year-old was one of three centre-backs in a five-man Dutch defence, which was breached by Lorenzo Pellegrini early in the first half.

Frank de Boer’s side salvaged a point when Donny van de Beek lashed a loose ball into the top corner from six-yards, but the draw sees them drop to third in Group A1, two points behind leaders Poland after four games.

In the final international fixture involving City players, Kyle Walker endured a frustrating evening with England.

Gareth Southgate’s side fell to a 1-0 defeat against Denmark and it was Walker who conceded the penalty from which Christian Eriksen scored the decisive goal.

The right-back, who started as one of three central defenders, might consider himself unlucky after making the slightest of contact with Thomas Delaney.

Walker finished the game in the unfamiliar left-back position as England were forced into a reshuffle before half-time following Harry Maguire’s dismissal for a second bookable offence.

The loss means the Three Lions drop to third behind Denmark in Group A2, with seven points from four games. Kevin De Bruyne’s Belgium top the group on nine points.
