Gabriel Jesus has praised the performance of his teammates after his crucial goal inspired City to a 1-0 Premier League victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Brazilian’s 53rd minute deflected strike earned Pep Guardiola‘s men all three points in a dominant display in London.

The City number nine operated on the right flank for a majority of the encounter and could have had a brace, only to be denied on the goal-line by compatriot Thiago Silva shortly after his opener.

The 24-year-old was delighted with his goal, but also made special mention of the performance of his teammates.

“We prepared the game to play well like we always try to do,” he said.

“We came to play against one of the best teams, they’re European champions, they have a lot of amazing players, so we knew it would be difficult coming here at their home. We played very well and won the game.

“I play like a striker. I can never turn properly with the way they play but I turned good and I took the shot.

“It was a little lucky but I’m very happy to score the goal and most important is that we won the game and everyone played so good!”

The victory sees City go level on points with Thomas Tuchel’s side in the league table after six matches - and despite overcoming our title rivals, Jesus believes the victory isn’t a message to the rest of the league.

“This is not about the message. We always try to play good but sometimes we don’t play so good.

“We have a lot of top players to create the chances and to score the goals. That’s what I think we have.”
