John Stones has urged City to ‘be true to ourselves’ and to go out and make Club history by reaching our first-ever Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

Manchester City will play host to the Ligue One giants holding a vital 2-1 advantage from last week’s semi-final first leg encounter in Paris.

A spellbinding second half display in the French capital saw City fight back from a goal down to put the Club in a wonderful position to reach the Istanbul showpiece for the first time.

And speaking at Monday’s pre-match press conference, England central defender Stones said he and his colleagues were determined to seize the moment and write another magical chapter in City history.

“It’s a big occasion for us as players and the club. A chance to get to the final of the Champions League,” Stones declared.

“To be in the situation we are now, you just don’t want to let it go.

“We are trying to grab every opportunity to succeed and we want to grab it. We need to show our character and be the Manchester City everyone knows. We want to make history for this club.

“We go into the game tomorrow to win it. That’s our mindset over the past five years I’ve been here. Be who we are, playing the way we do.

“If it doesn’t work out, we can hold our heads high and know we’ve been ourselves and shown our identity.

“But I am very confident in the lads and their ability, desire, belief in what we know we can do. I am confident we can go through and make the next step and make history for this club.

“We have to go into the game how we left off in the second half in Paris. It was a great result for us coming away from Paris with two away goals.

“We are excited for the challenge ahead. We have to be confident in our ability to do it again.”

Quizzed as to whether there was any danger of complacency creeping in given our advantage, Stones insisted City’s focus would not drop for an instant.

And he said the approach that has seen City win a fourth consecutive Carabao Cup and put us on the brink of a third Premier League title in four years would ensure Pep Guardiola’s side approached the challenge in the right way – by seeking victory.

We have to attack the game as we would any other game - to go out and win,” Stones asserted

“We’ve never gone into a game thinking we need to sit there, the job’s done and we need to defend.

“It’s a downward spiral if we go into the game like that. We need be who we are, play as Man City and as players we are excited for that.

“We are definitely fully focused on the job in hand.

“(The second half display in Paris) gave us a massive confidence boost definitely. The character we showed to come from behind is something not easy to do. We felt great pride and satisfaction after that victory.

“Those sort of moments are big moments, especially in the Champions League. It’s something we can thrive off of in this next 90 minutes tomorrow.

“It was a huge victory and the resilience, belief and character we showed in Paris is something you can’t always put your finger on why it happened. It came from the players as a collective.

“We have a lot of confidence tomorrow and hopefully we can get the job done and make it to the final.”
