Joleon Lescott insists defeat to Spurs isn’t cause for concern, with the title race still in Manchester City’s hands.

A breath-taking Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium saw Guardiola’s men twice come back from one goal down, but a stoppage time Harry Kane strike ensured the visitors came away with a 3-2 victory.

It was City’s first league defeat since late October, but we still sit six points clear of second-placed Liverpool at the summit.

Speaking on Matchday Live, former City defender Lescott played down the repercussions of our Spurs setback, pointing out that any prospects of silverware this season remain in our own hands.

“Of course, like we’re not trying to get carried away when we win by six or seven, let’s not get carried away that we’ve lost one,” Lescott reflected.

“The reality is Spurs are a good team who are fighting for the top four, we haven’t won today but the outcome of the league, the Champions League and the FA Cup is still in our hands.

“Whatever stage of the season you’re at, as long as that is the possibility and you’re in control of your own destiny, you’d take it.”

The former City defender also gave credit to the visitors for their performance, with particular attention paid to Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane.

He said: “Today was just a perfect execution of a gameplan.

“Spurs knew that they were going to have long spells without the ball, (but they knew) this is the way they were going to create opportunities, and they did it.

“It was a case of a usual performance (from City) in terms of possession and control, but the opposition had a bigger threat than normal teams do.

“We’ve seen Son hurt us before and Kane’s ball retention is as good as anyone to be honest, he’s so reliable in keeping the ball but then also the execution of the pass.

“I just feel that they had more quality than normal teams.

“There were a lot of good performances from Spurs but they’re world class talents and not everyone has that at their disposal.”
