The Argentinian forward has lifted six major honours in sky blue, comprising of two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
Having played his part in all that success for Pep Guardiola’s team, the 24-year-old has now completed a move to Spanish side Atletico Madrid.
After arriving in Manchester from Argentinian giants River Plate in the summer of 2022, he hit the ground running and proved a useful component in Guardiola’s plans whether in the central striker role or deeper.
While a City player, Alvarez also achieved major success with his national side, helping them to glory in the 2022 World Cup and 2024 Copa America.
Here we’ll take a look at the numbers behind Alvarez’s City career…
103
In just two seasons, Alvarez played 103 games for City. Only two players have played more than that for Guardiola’s side since the start of 2022/23.
That comprised of 49 appearances in 2022/23 – his first campaign in European football – before a whopping 54 in 2023/24.
No player featured on more occasions than him last season, with the Argentinian used in a range of positions including central striker and attacking midfielder.
He missed just two games in the Premier League last term and a further three in the Champions League; playing in every other match across all competitions including the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
Six
Alvarez has the very healthy habit of picking up silverware.
Picking up six major trophies for City is no mean feat, especially considering he was only at the Club for two campaigns.
He has been part of one of our greatest teams ever, with Pep Guardiola leading us to the Big Five in 2023 – making us the first English side ever to hold the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World simultaneously.
After that, he added the 2023/24 Premier League title as we held our nerve in another nail biting title race.
53
That’s how many goals Alvarez was directly involved in at City.
He scored 36 times, with 20 of those coming in the Premier League.
A further eight in the UEFA Champions League, four in the FA Cup, one in the Carabao Cup, one in the Community Shield and two at the FIFA Club World Cup.
Of his 17 assists, Alvarez laid on all nine in the Premier League in 2023/24 with four coming in the Champions League and three in the FA Cup.
The final assist followed in his outstanding performance at the Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia.
During his City stay, only Erling Haaland and Phil Foden scored more goals while Kevin De Bruyne, Rodrigo and Foden laid on more assists.
180
Alvarez became a key corner taker for City in his second season in particular.
In total, he took 180 corners, the second most in our squad.
However, his creativity in open play was not quite as influential.
His 930 completed passes in the final third placed him ninth amongst the City squad during his two seasons, while he was fifth for chances created with 130 (according to Opta’s figures).
Winning free-kicks was not central to Alvarez’s game. He was fouled just 34 times in total, with 14 City players on the receiving end more than he has been in the last two seasons.
