Julian Alvarez says City are hungry to summon up an instant response when we play host to Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

Pep Guardiola’s side will step out at the Etihad seeking to get back to winning ways after what was a frustrating afternoon away to Spurs last Sunday where Harry Kane’s first half goal for the hosts ultimately proved decisive.

Rather than dwell on the disappointment of that 1-0 loss in the capital however, Alvarez says he and his teammates are focused on quickly bouncing back to winning ways.

And with 17 games remaining in the Premier League calendar, including pivotal assignments both away and at home to leaders Arsenal, Alvarez says second placed City are focused on the task in hand with a lot of football still to be played between now and the end of May.

“It was frustrating to lose at Tottenham but we’re still aware that we have a lot of games to go,” the Argentine striker pointed out.

“We also have two matches to come against Arsenal. They are matches against our direct rivals, there is no other way of putting it.

“In between time, it’s about picking up as many points and wins as possible and being almost perfect.

“We are working hard, and we have to make sure we get the three points and then we will carry on after that.

“Obviously (winning the title), that’s our objective in the Premier League and in the other competitions.

“We will take things step by step, focus on ourselves and try and win all our games.”

Alvarez, who was a key part of Argentina’s World Cup winning squad at the recent Qatar showpiece, has made a big impact in his first six months at the Club since joining us from River Plate.

The 23-year-old has impressed both with his goal scoring acumen, ferocious work rate and hunger allied to his technical quality.

All told, Alvarez has already accumulated nine goals from 27 appearances across all competitions.

And for his part, the striker believes working and learning every day under City manager Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff is only helping him develop both as a player and as an individual.

“Every day I try and listen to every piece of advice in order to learn, not just from Pep, but from every one of the coaching staff,” Alvarez added.

“They are all detailed people and go into everything in fine detail with you so that on matchday you have all the necessary tools to put their plans into practice on the pitch.

“So yes, it’s all about paying close attention every day so you can keep growing as a player and as a person.”
