Julian Alvarez says that City are ‘where we want to be’ as the squad prepare for the defining final stretch of the 2022-23 campaign.

With six Premier League games remaining, Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions sit top of the table, a point ahead of Arsenal and armed with a crucial game in hand, having regained pole position for the first time in 10 weeks thanks to Sunday’s 2-1 win at Fulham

Though Gunners have the opportunity to regain top spot on Tuesday evening when they entertain Chelsea, City then return to action at home to West Ham 24 hours later where could maintain control of the title race once more.

With City also in the hunt for success in the Champions League, where we face a mouth-watering semi-final with Real Madrid later this month, and through to a first-ever all-Manchester FA Cup final against United on June 3, it promises to be a thrilling finale to the season.

And for striker Alvarez, he believes the Club are perfectly positioned as we gear up for an intense - and hopefully memorable - final six weeks or so.

“We’re in a great position - this is where we wanted to be at the start of the season,” the Argentine World Cup winner asserted.

“Everyone has put in really good work. We’ve got a lot of confidence.

“Every game from now on is a final for us so we’re going to keep working and focusing on every match to come.

“We have to defend our lead at the top and everyone is going to pull together.”

Alvarez has enjoyed a fine first season in English football following his move to the Etihad from South American giants River Plate last year.

Sunday’s stunning strike at Fulham, which clinched that crucial 2-1 Premier League triumph, was his 15th goal overall this season.

And for the 23-year-old, who also tasted World Cup success with Argentina last winter, the move to the Etihad has more than lived up to expectations.

“The Premier League is one of the best leagues - I had a good idea of that coming over from Argentina,” Alvarez reflected.

“I’m really happy with my first season - what I’ve learnt and how I’ve been able to grow.

“But we know the most important is yet to come.”
