Two-goal Kevin De Bruyne believes City thoroughly deserved the 4-1 Premier League victory over Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.

The Belgian opened the scoring with a composed finish, notching his 50th Premier League goal, before Jadon Sancho levelled for the visitors.

The skipper then restored the lead just before the half-hour mark, with Riyad Mahrez adding a second-half double to see City move six points clear at the top of the table.

The 30-year-old feels Pep Guardiola‘s side were the deserved victors.

“I think United played very differently than other occasions,” he said. “They tried to press us and they played well in the first half.

“In the second half we found more opportunities. We did really well. We showed today we’re a good team. I can’t explain how it happens and why we always win there [Old Trafford] and have difficulties at home.

“We played really well and we fully deserved the three points.”

Both of De Bruyne‘s goals came after good work on the left side from the likes of Jack Grealish, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden and De Bruyne believes that being in the right place at the right time was the key to his goals.

“I think the chances came from that left side, when they arrived at the byline, I had to be in the box,” he reflected.

“The first chance is an easy one, the second one I’m just in the right position. It’s just all about being in the right place.”

Guardiola‘s side are six points ahead of Liverpool, who have a game in hand and City’s skipper believes that taking it one game at a time will be key in the title race.

“It’s about winning game by game,” he admitted. “They put the pressure on us by winning yesterday.

“We responded in a good way, we play the game we need to play, always. We fight for it and we’re going to do that until the end of the season.”
