The midfielder has signed an extension to his current deal, taking him to the summer of 2025, which will bring up a decade of service at the Etihad Stadium.
And it’s been a glittering period, with De Bruyne winning two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and four League Cups, as well as the 2020 PFA Player of the Year award.
Having joined in 2015 from Wolfsburg – scoring 65 goals and providing 105 assists in 255 matches to date – the 29-year-old believes the Club have overdelivered in every area since his arrival.
“When I came here it was with big expectations and they exceeded every expectation in every part,” De Bruyne said.
“To compete in every cup competition, every title, every Champions League, every FA Cup - and doing it the right way, the way we play, excites me.
“I don’t know why I would change that.”
De Bruyne says his family being settled in Manchester was also a big factor in his decision to extend his deal.
During his six-year spell, Kevin and his wife Michele have had three children, who he says are now native Mancunians!
As a result, he says Manchester feel like home now, a factor that made staying here an easy decision.
“[My family being settled] is obviously really important,” he said. “I don’t have to just think about myself – I have my wife and three kids.
“We have been really happy here and my kids were born here, so they are basically half Manc!
“They are really happy and the feeling I have with the club is so positive. There was no thought at all about switching teams, so it was fairly easy on my part.
“I feel proud because I’ve been here now for six years and obviously this feels like home,” he said.
“The longest time I’ve been at a club is here.
“To get the extension now at my age feels like a very proud moment because it means they trust me until I get really old in football terms!
“I feel really happy, and my family is also really proud, so that’s really nice.”
With so much silverware already in the bag, what’s left for De Bruyne to achieve?
The midfielder says he wants to continue the success he’s enjoyed so far – and provide inspiration and guidance to the Club’s young players.
“I hope I can maintain my level. I am confident in that,” he said.
“Physically I have always been okay,” he said. “Obviously, you get a few injuries here and there but that happens to everybody.
“But I hope to maintain the same level we did the last six years, where we’ve been able to compete all the time for titles.
“It’s hard to keep the standard but that standard had been set for the last six years and I want keep doing that for the next four years of this contract.
“I don’t want to do anything different – compete here for titles and help the team perform and help the young players become better until I finish.”
