And the 29-year-old’s excellence and consistency across the season has now seen him fend off competition from fellow nominees Danny Ings (Southampton), Nick Pope (Burnley), Jamie Vardy (Leicester City), Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane (all Liverpool) to land the prestigious Premier League prize.
It’s yet further fitting recognition for De Bruyne who has once again illustrated just why he is recognised as one of the most influential attacking players in the country.
The 29-year-old provided 20 assists in our league season to win his second Premier League Playmaker award and in doing so equalled Thierry Henry’s 17-year record for the highest number of assists in a single campaign.
He also scored a career-best 13 Premier League goals and won the Goal of the Month award twice, for his stunning half-volley against Newcastle United back in November and his curling effort from distance against Norwich City on the final day of the season.
City’s No.17 was directly involved in more goals than anyone else in the competition, with his combined tally of 33 goals and assists four more than second placed Mohamed Salah.
