Kyle Walker says he loves nothing better than pitting his wits against wingers who test him to the fullest.

The City and England right-back faced his sternest test of the fledging campaign last weekend in the form of Allan Saint-Maximin and on Saturday he will face another of the Premier League’s finest in Wilfried Zaha.

Walker says he allowed Saint-Maximin too much early time on the ball at St James’ Park, but enjoyed the challenge against the pacy French forward.

“It was a very interesting game and I really enjoyed it,” said Walker.

“I feel that if you don’t want to play against some of the best wingers in the Premier League then you are not really testing yourself and that was a really good test - probably one of the toughest that I have had in a long time.

“I probably gave him too many actions at the start of the game which got his confidence up.

“It is all about the mind and these players play with confidence.

“It is down to us as full-backs to make sure their confidence is low, we can get on top of them and be a little bit aggressive.”

Crystal Palace’s Zaha has been a thorn in City’s side on a number of occasions.

Walker, however, is looking forward to another epic battle and trying his best to keep the livewire winger as quiet as possible.

“He is light on his feet and the speed of his feet is right up there,” he said.

“It is going to be a very difficult match. I have played against Wilf a lot of times and hopefully I can come out on top.”

Walker is expecting difficult tests throughout the campaign and believes a number of clubs are stronger than they were last season.

But he adds that he won’t be losing sleep about title rivals and believes they should be more worried about City.

“Tottenham have made some really good signings,” he said.

“I think they are going to be really good and Conte is a top manager and very organised, so that is always an exciting and challenging game when we play them, not just physically but mentally.

“But then you have got the likes of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Liverpool at Anfield - these are the games that you relish.

“Arsenal have started really well and Mikel has got them playing some really good football and definitely stamped his philosophy onto the game.

“That is always going to be a tough game as well.

“It is a Premier League season, it is 38 games and we have played just three matches.

“That is not going to define the Premier League.

“People take steps in the right direction, but come Christmas and some drop off - that is just how it is.

“It is about making sure you are cool, calm, and collected in the right areas and in the right areas of the season.

“We have made a better start than what we have done in the previous seasons.

“We are happy, but we are not resting on that, though.

“It is going to be a tough game against Palace, but it is about the three points and moving on to the next one.

“Now the games are coming thick and fast you need to build a run.

“I am not bothered about what other teams are doing. I feel like that if this team hits the ground running and is playing the level of football that can be played then we shouldn’t worry about anyone - they should worry about us.”
