John Stones’ opener in City’s battling 1-1 draw with Liverpool represented our first Premier League goal from a set-piece at Anfield for over 13 years.

The England international lost his marker and met Kevin De Bruyne’s fizzed corner at the near post to smartly prod home in the 23rd minute - replicating Vincent Kompany’s strike from a dead ball in November 2011.

On that occasion, the Belgian darted into the box to flick David Silva’s cross into the top corner before we played out another 1-1 draw at the home of the Reds en route to our maiden Premier League crown.

However, that would be our last until Stones’ brilliance in the latest, and final, league meeting with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool where Alexis Mac Allister’s second-half penalty saw the spoils shared.

DELIVERING DE BRUYNE

De Bruyne’s vital influence on City was once again on show at Anfield where his assist for Stones’ goal means he’s been directly involved in 13 goals (two goals and 11 assists) in 12 appearances in all competitions this term.

It also represented his seventh Premier League assist against the Merseyside team which means he is only behind Ryan Giggs (eight) who has provided more against the Reds than any other player in the competition.

Meanwhile, only Andrew Cole (14) and the Welshman (12) have a higher total of goals and assists against Liverpool than De Bruyne’s 12 in the Premier League.

FINE MARGINS

The 1-1 Premier League draw at Anfield follows the same scoreline between the two teams in November’s reverse fixture at the Etihad Stadium.

By drawing both league clashes this term, Guardiola’s side and Klopp’s team have done so for the second time in the last three seasons.

Across the last six Premier League meetings, four have ended in draws which matches the number throughout the previous 17 combined.

GOALS GALORE

With both teams finding the net at Anfield on Sunday, no fixture has seen two teams score more since the start of the 2020/21 season.

City and Liverpool have both scored in seven of the last eight Premier League meetings with 26 goals totalled across the last 720 minutes of top flight action.

Pep Guardiola’s side have scored 15 to Klopp’s side’s 10.

However, Liverpool have registered the only league clean sheet throughout when they inflicted a narrow 1-0 defeat on City at Anfield in October 2022.

PREMIER LEAGUE STATS

Erling Haaland currently leads the division’s scoring chart with 18 ahead of Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins (16) and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (15).

Julian Alvarez has registered the most Premier League assists for City this term with eight and is only two behind Brighton’s Pascal Gross (10) who leads the metric.

In terms of completed passes, the Blues’ Rodrigo has the most in the top flight with 2,634.

Finally, Ederson is joint second in the Premier League for clean sheets with eight alongside Everton’s Jordan Pickford behind Arsenal’s David Raya (nine).
