Pep Guardiola has made five changes to his side for this afternoon's Premier League meeting with Liverpool at Anfield.

The entire front three has been switched, with Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva coming in after missing Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League match with FC Copenhagen.

Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias are the other two players added to the side.

Matchday Centre | Liverpool v City

Aymeric Laporte, Sergio Gomez, Riyad Mahrez, Jack Grealish and Julian Alvarez step aside after starting in Denmark.

That means there is just one change from our last Premier League game - the 4-0 defeat of Southampton last weekend - with Gundogan replacing Mahrez.

Teams

CITY XI: Ederson, Akanji, Dias, Ake, Cancelo, Rodrigo, Gundogan (c), De Bruyne, Bernardo, Foden, Haaland

Subs: Ortega Moreno, Grealish, Alvarez, Gomez, Laporte, Mahrez, Palmer, Lewis, Wilson-Esbrand

LIVERPOOL XI: Alisson, Milner, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Thiago, Elliott, Jota, Salah, Firmino

Tactics

We can expect the familiar 4-3-3 again.

Ederson will be protected by a back four of Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake and Joao Cancelo.

Cancelo starts on the right with Ake on the left, while Dias and Akanji will be the central defensive partnership.

Match preview | Liverpool v City

Rodrigo sits at the base of the midfield, with Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne pushing forward on either side of him.

Phil Foden will play on the left wing and Bernardo Silva on the right in support of central striker Erling Haaland.

Bernardo out wide

Guardiola has elected for a solid base in midfield with both Rodrigo and Gundogan there to keep the ball against the usually energetic Liverpool side.

That is a key area of competition in fixtures against Jurgen Klopp’s side, so the boss will be looking for those two to dominate before supplying the ball further forward.

Higher up the pitch will be Bernardo Silva, who will aim to use his world-class dribbling ability to push the hosts back and weave his way out of any situation with the ball at his feet.

Always a willing runner, Bernardo will also be of great help to Manuel Akanji behind him on the right flank.

Match stats

Liverpool

  • Ten points is Liverpool’s lowest tally after eight games in a decade. In 2012-13, they had nine points and went on to finish seventh.
  • The Reds have conceded 16 goals in their past 12 league matches and let in the first goal 10 times during that run. In the previous 12 games they only conceded the opening goal twice and kept 10 clean sheets.
  • Liverpool can concede at least three goals in three successive top-flight fixtures for the first time since December 1953.
  • Jurgen Klopp’s side are unbeaten in 27 home league matches since a 1-0 defeat by Fulham in March last year (W20, D7).

Manchester City

  • City are on a club record run of 22 away league games without defeat since losing 1-0 at Spurs on the opening weekend of last season.
  • We are unbeaten in 21 top-flight matches, with our only defeat in 37 coming at home to Tottenham in February.
  • City’s tally of 33 goals is the joint-most after nine Premier League games, level with our own record from 2011-12. The most after 10 fixtures is 36, also by City in 2011-12.
  • We are the first team to score at least four goals in five consecutive top-flight fixtures since Tottenham in 1963.
  • Erling Haaland has 15 Premier League goals, already equalling the final total of City’s top scorer in the division last season, Kevin De Bruyne.
