Previous meeting
City’s last meeting with AFC Bournemouth came in September 2020 in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Liam Delap and Phil Foden scored for City either side of Sam Surridge’s goal for the visitors, who were in the Championship when the match was played.
Delap‘s debut goal, scored in the 18th minute, was a powerful left footed drive high into Mark Travers’ net. Bournemouth’s reply came just a few minutes later, with Surridge’s turn and shot beating Steffen low to his right.
Foden‘s second half winner came after a Riyad Mahrez shot that bounced back to the England international. He reacted quickest and sent a scuffed right footed shot home.
Last time out
City got off to a flying start in the Premier League with a comfortable 2-0 victory at West Ham United’s London Stadium on Sunday. Erling Haaland scored both goals, his first two strikes in competitive fixtures for City.
The first came from the penalty spot after he had been felled by goalkeeper Alphonse Areola and the second was a sweet slide-rule finish after he had been released by Kevin De Bruyne.
Bournemouth also started their league campaign off with a victory; defeating Aston Villa 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.
Jefferson Lerma scored the opener in the second minute of the match and the three points were sealed by a powerful Kieffer Moore header in the 80th minute.
Form guide
Both sides come into the game having claimed all three points available to them so far. As they both did so with 2-0 victories, they are separated only by the alphabetic order of their names.
We won both of our pre-season friendlies, before the defeat to Liverpool in the Community Shield.
Before that win over Villa, Bournemouth did lose their pre-season friendlies with Real Sociedad and Bristol City.
City have yet to lose against AFC Bournemouth, having won 15 and drawn two of the 17 meetings dating back to 1987.
