Sergio Aguero and Rodrigo got the goals to send City on our way under the famous arch, on a day in which Phil Foden came of age with a man of the match performance.
And, as has been customary during Pep Guardiola’s tenure, our latest triumph goes hand in hand with several significant statistics and memorable milestones.
We’ll start with our domestic dominance.
We have now won six consecutive English trophies and, looking further back, have won eight of the last nine since lifting the 2017/18 League Cup.
It was our seventh League Cup triumph, which leaves us one behind record holders Liverpool, whilst we are the first team to win the competition three times in a row since the Merseyside outfit did so between 1981-84.
And, finally on the home front, this victory means we have progressed or won the final of our last 19 domestic cup ties.
For Guardiola it was yet another moment to savour at Wembley.
The boss has now won each of the six finals he has reached with City (three League Cups, two Community Shields and one FA Cup), whilst of his last 25 finals as a top-flight manager, he has been victorious on 21 occasions.
It was his third League Cup triumph and he needs one more to join Brian Clough, Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho as the most successful manager in the competition’s history.
Now, to a golden trio of players.
Nobody has won the League Cup more times than Aguero, Fernandinho and David Silva, who claimed their fifth winner’s medal against Villa to move level with Ian Rush.
And there was further reason to celebrate for Aguero who further cemented his place as one of the greatest goalscorers we’ve seen on these shores.
His goal was his 11th in the League Cup and no player has hit the back of the net more since he made his debut in the competition back in November 2011.
However, it was Foden’s star which shone brightest under the glare of the Wembley spotlight.
Seventy-one touches, 90% pass completion, five shots, two chances created, and one vitally important assist were the numbers behind his man of the match display.
His guided header into Aguero’s path for the game’s opener means he has been directly involved in nine goals in 10 starts this season.
A day to remember for the young man from Stockport and hopefully there will be many more to come.
