And after such a long break and a return in such unfamiliar circumstances, Walker said the manner of City’s impressive return to action spoke volumes.
“It’s the unknown for everyone and we had to feel our way into the game,” the right back reflected.
“Getting a goal just before half time from Raheem was key and obviously them then having a man sent off was always going to help.
“The manager said we had done very well at half time. We had four one-on-ones in the first half but fair play to their goalkeeper.”
The victory - which saw City wear shirts bearing the logo of Cityzens Giving for Recovery in aid of our new global initiative to help communities around the globe affected by the global pandemic, as well as Black Lives Matters on the back of our shirts - marked the start of a hectic period for City.
Pep Guardiola face playing nine more league games before July 26 and also have the resumption of our Champions League campaign in August.
But for Walker the busy schedule was something to be embraced.
“In terms of training for me I always prefer playing matches,” Walker added. “We have a shorter break between matches and more games is good.
“I think it’s only right we finish the season and we have the Champions League also to look forward to.
“We have a 2-1 lead over Real Madrid to take into the second leg of the last 16 and then the incentive of a mini tournament so its going to be exciting times.”
