1977: Perhaps one of the most dramatic Bank Holiday weekends fell in this year, with City going neck-and-neck with Liverpool for the League title.
With a home game against Leeds United, a trip to Liverpool and another home clash with Middlesbrough all in the space of four days, it was a crucial period of the campaign.
Two Brian Kidd goals saw Leeds off in a 2-1 win at Maine Road on the previous day, but the 2-1 loss at Anfield, watched by more than 55,000 fans, would prove decisive come the end of the season. The win put Liverpool three points clear of City and level on points with leaders Ipswich Town.
City completed the Easter weekend with a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough two days later but would go on to finish a point behind Liverpool a month later.
2015: The Academy Stadium played host to its first international match as England’s Lionesses took on China.
Goals from Jodie Taylor and Fran Kirby saw England secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory in front of 5,665 fans.
2016: City maintained our grip on fourth place in the Premier League as Samir Nasri returned from injury to score the winner against West Brom.
Manuel Pellegrini’s men had to come from behind after Stephane Sessegnon beat Joe Hart at his near post just six minutes in.
Sessegnon then brought down Aleksandar Kolarov in the area to allow Sergio Aguero to equalise from the spot.

Nasri tapped into an empty net with 25 minutes remaining to put City four points above Manchester United.
2019: Son Heung-min’s late goal meant it was advantage Tottenham after a hard-fought Champions League quarter-final first leg.
In front of a full house at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, City were awarded an early penalty after Danny Rose’s hand ball but Sergio Aguero’s penalty was saved by Spurs keeper Huge Lloris.
And the hosts struck with 12 minutes left as Son twisted and turned on the byeline before shooting low past Ederson.
Birthdays
Ian Brightwell 9/4/68: An ever-dependable defender, Ian played more than 380 games in total for City between 1986 and 1998, scoring 19 goals – most notably his unforgettable screamer to earn a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford in 1990.
Before making his first team bow, Ian had also been part of City’s FA Youth Cup winning side of 1986.
Kenny Clements 9/4/55: Another rock solid defender, Middleton-born Kenny made more than 280 appearances for the Club in two separate spells between 1972 and 1988, sandwiched by a period at Oldham Athletic.
DAVID SILVA: Made in Gran Canaria
Kenny was also part of our 1976 League Cup winning squad and was an unused substitute in our 2-1 final win over Newcastle United.
Robbie Fowler 9/4/75: A prodigious goal scorer with Liverpool, striker Fowler joined City during the stewardship of Kevin Keegan.
The England striker spent just under three years at the Club, making 80 league appearances and scoring 21 Premier League goals.
