1976: City begin a two-week tour of South East Asia by beating the Japanese National XI 3-0 in the first of four matches against the same team.

2001: Following relegation from the Premier League, manager Joe Royle is sacked after defeats to Ipswich Town and Chelsea condemn City to the second tier.

Royle is one of the most celebrated managers in the club’s recent history after guiding City to back-to-back promotions.
