Looking back at events, signings and games from City’s history that occurred on this day…

March 30

1935

City’s slender Division One title hopes all but end with a crushing 3-0 defeat at Huddersfield Town. The loss leaves Wilf Wild’s side five points adrift of leaders Arsenal with eight games remaining.

1973

Malcolm Allison resigns after finding managing City a completely different beast to coaching the Blues.

His 43 games in sole charge of City following Joe Mercer’s departure saw the Blues win 14, draw 12 and lose 1. Allison was soon in gainful employment again after landing the Crystal Palace job just a day later.

2002

Darren Huckerby continues his rich vein of form with a hat-trick in a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at Maine Road.

Huckerby strikes twice just before the break and completes his treble minutes from time to keep Kevin Keegan’s side five points clear of Wolves at the top and within eight points of the Division One title and four points away from automatic promotion.

2017

Lucy Bronze is on target as City secure a crucial quarter-final second leg 1-0 win over Fortuna Hjorring to become the first English team to reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals since 2014.

City, the Women’s Super League champions, beat the Danish side 1-0 in the first leg and doubled that advantage in the Etihad return through Bronze’s looping header.

Our reward for the reaching the semi-finals for the first time is a semi-final encounter with Lyon.

2019

City secure a crucial 2-0 win away at Fulham to return to the top of the Premier League table on what was an emotional afternoon at Craven Cottage.

Sergio Aguero and Bernardo Silva are the men on the mark for City on what was our first game following the sad passing of former long serving Club Secretary and Life President Bernard Halford.

In a touching tribute to Bernard’s enormous contribution to the Club, thousands of travelling City fans wore red and black scarves in honour of the great man, with manager Pep Guardiola and his players following suit at the final whistle.

Birthdays

On 30 March 1953, striker Phillip Henson was born in Manchester.

Henson made 16 league appearances for the Club between 1971 and 1974 before moving on to play for Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham, Sparta Rotterdam and Stockport County.

DAVID SILVA: Made in Gran Canaria

Also born on this day in 1976 in Siena, Italy was forward Bernardo Corradi.

The Italian international joined City from Valencia in the summer of 2006 and had the distinction of being sent off for two yellow cards on his debut against Chelsea!

Though Corradi became the first Italian to score for the Club, netting against Fulham in October, he was to suffer another dismissal in an Old Trafford derby in December.

And after two seasons at the Club, Corradi eventually moved on to Reggina in 2008, having made 29 appearances in total, scoring three goals.
