As the curtain fell on the 2022/23 term, Pep Guardiola’s side sealed our third successive title, fifth in the last six seasons and seventh in 12.
Sitting eight points behind Arsenal at the league’s summit on April 1, a sprint to the finish saw us overtake the Gunners and lift the championship with three matches to spare.
Here we look at some of the incredible statistics which saw us retain the Premier League crown…
WIN RATIO
City won 28 of our 38 games this season, totalling 84 of our 89 points – handing us a fantastic 73%. win ratio.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, second-placed Arsenal tallied the second highest number of wins with 26, closely followed by Manchester United’s 23.
POINTS PER GAME
Thanks to our phenomenal record of 28 league wins, our points-per-game average stood at 2.34.
Our haul of 89 points is the joint ninth highest points tally for a Premier League season – a list we already feature three times on for our Centurions season in 2017/18, 98 points total in 2018/19 and 93 recorded in 2021/22.
That means, across Guardiola’s seven seasons in England, we have totalled a staggering 625 points, ahead of Liverpool who have gained 575 in that time.
AVERAGE POSSESSION
Across the campaign, we averaged a total of 65.2% possession in each Premier League match. This figure is the most across the division’s 20 teams.
HISTORIC HAALAND
Erling Haaland’s sensational maiden season at the Etihad Stadium saw him take the Premier League by storm by scoring 36 league goals.
The Norwegian finished six ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane which saw him become the third City player alongside Sergio Aguero (2014/15) and Carlos Tevez (2010/11) to claim the coveted Golden Boot.
By doing so he set a new record for most goals in a single campaign with his 35th of the league term coming against West Ham in May.
That saw him go beyond Alan Shearer and Andy Cole’s hauls of 34 in 1993/94 and 1994/95 respectively.
HOW MAY I ASSIST YOU?
Alongside Haaland winning the Golden Boot prize, Kevin De Bruyne was awarded the Playmaker of the Year award for a third time.
He did so after contributing 16 assists to City’s Premier League title winning campaign – the most across the entirety of the division.
The Belgian maestro is the only player to win the gong more than once, claiming the inaugural prize in 2017/18 (16 assists) and then again in 2019/20 with 20 - the joint highest ever in a single Premier League campaign.
GOALS PER GAME
City scored a whopping 94 goals across our 38 Premier League fixtures – averaging 2.47 goals per game.
This was the highest across our league counterparts, with Arsenal netting 88 (2.31 average) the second highest.
What’s more, we only failed to score in three league games in 2022/23.
THREE IN A ROW
By winning our third successive top-flight title, we’ve joined an exclusive club by doing so.
City are only the fifth club in the history of English football to lift three in a row after Huddersfield (1924-1926), Arsenal (1933-1935), Liverpool (1982-1984) and Manchester United (1999-2001 & 2007-2009).
CLEAN SHEETS
Once again, Ederson was an ever-present in between the sticks for City in the Premier League in 2022/23.
The exceptional Brazilian stopper played in all but three of our league fixtures – maintaining a total of 11 shutouts in sky blue.
Stefan Ortega deputised excellently in his maiden campaign for the Club, recording two clean sheets in his three outings – seeing City total 13 for the term.
LONGEST WINNING RUN
Guardiola’s team hit form at the perfect time in the season as we stormed to the top of the league on May 3 thanks to our 3-0 win over West Ham at the Etihad Stadium.
This played a part in our longest winning run of the campaign which saw us record 12 successive triumphs starting with a 4-1 away success to Bournemouth in February and ending with a 1-0 win over Chelsea at home in May.
LONGEST UNBEATEN RUN
That winning run ended with a 1-1 draw on the road to Brighton, but extended our streak without loss to 16 – our longest of the term.
This began with a professional 3-1 Etihad win over Aston Villa and only included one more draw – a 1-1 result away with Nottingham Forest.
