Pep Guardiola has made two changes for today’s Premier League clash with West Ham with Stefan Ortega Moreno and Jeremy Doku coming into the side.

A change of goalkeeper was enforced with Ederson suffering a fractured eye socket in the 2-0 win over Spurs on Tuesday night when he was replaced by the German in the second half.

Doku was also a second-half substitute and won the penalty for Erling Haaland’s second that killed off the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

City are playing for a place in history with the opportunity to become the first ever English men’s side to win the top-flight title four times in a row.

Only a win would guarantee the Premier League if second-placed Arsenal win their final match against Everton, which kicks off at the same time.

TEAMS

CITY XI: Ortega Moreno, Walker (C), Akanji, Dias, Gvardiol, Rodrigo, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Foden, Doku, Haaland

WEST HAM XI: Areola, Coufal, Zouma, Mavropanos, Cresswell, Emerson, Ward-Prowse, Soucek, Paqueta, Kudus, Antonio

SUBS: Fabianski, Johnson, Casey, Ogbonna, E Alvarez, Earthy, Cornet, Ings, Mubama

TACTICS

With Mateo Kovacic moving to the bench, it’s an even more attacking line-up with only a win guaranteeing finish top.

It’s likely that Doku and Bernardo Silva will be high and wide wingers either side of Haaland, spearheading the attack.

There’s plenty of creativity behind with Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden ahead of Rodrigo as a holding midfielder.

Full-backs Kyle Walker and Josko Gvardiol, who has five goals in his last eight appearances, will try to support the attack with Ruben Dias and Manuel Akanji in the centre of the back-four.

HAND IT TO YOU

City are blessed with two brilliant goalkeepers and the unfortunate Ederson misses out today after being hurt in a collision after a courageous save at Spurs.

But Ortega stepped in and pulled off a number of big saves including a remarkable stop from Heung Min-Son as he looked to equalise.

He has played in some big games for City already including last season’s FA Cup final victory over Manchester United and our draw at Real Madrid’s noisy Santiago Bernabeu this season.

And he follows in the footsteps of Bert Trautmann as a great German goalkeeper to star for the Blues.

WE FIGHT ‘TIL THE END

Five times we have clinched the title on the final day of the season, but it hasn’t always been straightforward.

Back in 1968, there was a seven-goal thriller at Newcastle with Francis Lee scoring the winner and in 2012 there was Sergio Aguero’s that needs no reminders.

We faced today’s opponents in 2014 under Manuel Pellegrini and won 2-0 while Pep Guardiola has secured two title on the final day.

Both times we conceded the first goal, before beating Brighton 4-1 in 2021 and Aston Villa 3-2 in 2023.

The City boss is expecting more drama today but said he will have the players ready, with only three points guaranteeing us the title.

Stats and facts

City are unbeaten in our last 16 Premier League games against West Ham winning 13), since a 2-1 home loss in September 2015.

West Ham have lost 15 of their 17 Premier League away games at the Etihad Stadium, with the exceptions being a 1-1 draw (January 2008) and a 2-1 win (September 2015).

West Ham have conceded at least once in all 17 of their Premier League games at the Etihad– only Tottenham have played at a specific venue more in the competition without ever keeping a clean sheet (18 at Emirates Stadium).

Before our 1-0 defeat at Brentford last season, City had won our final league game in each of Pep Guardiola’s first six seasons in charge. We’ve not lost their final league game in consecutive campaigns since a run of three between 2005/06 and 2007/08.

West Ham have lost their final league game in each of the last two seasons, last doing so in three in a row between 2013/14 and 2015/16.

City are the only side yet to lose a home Premier League match this season, winning 13. City are looking to remain unbeaten at home in a top-flight season for a fourth time, along with 1904/05, 1920/21 and 2011/12, while manager Pep Guardiola has only gone a full top-flight season unbeaten once before, with Barcelona in 2009/10.

West Ham have lost 5-2 at Crystal Palace and 5-0 at Chelsea in their last two Premier League away games; the last team to concede 5+ goals in three consecutive top-flight away games were Blackburn Rovers (April-August 1965), while West Ham last did so in April 1932.

Kevin De Bruyne has six assists in Premier League final games – it’s the most of any current player, with only Nolberto Solano providing more in the competition’s history (seven).

De Bruyne’s assist for Haaland against Spurs on Tuesday took him to 112 in the Premier League, with only Ryan Giggs having more in the history of the competition (162).
This will be David Moyes’ 198th and final Premier League game in charge of West Ham – no permanent manager has a higher win rate for the Hammers in the competition than the Scotsman (37.1%, same as Alan Curbishley).
