PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW

“The quality they have, the shape they play and the courage, it’s no surprise,” said Pep of the Wolves revival.

“Wolves always have had really good players and now they have an incredible run.

“Similar when Newcastle came a month ago and Aston Villa came recently. It’s another final for us. Maybe the most important game we have ahead of us.

“We have four finals.”

Team news

Ederson, Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Jeremy Doku all return to the starting eleven with Erling Haaland named on the bench as City make four changes for Friday’s Premier League visit of Wolves.

From the side that started last Sunday’s 2-0 FA Cup semi-final victory over Nottingham Forest, Stefan Ortega Moreno, Rico Lewis, Savinho and Jack Grealish all revert to the bench.

Ederson, De Bruyne, Gundogan and Doku all come into Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven on a night that also sees Bernardo Silva set to chalk up his 400th appearance for City.

Meanwhile centre forward Haaland also makes a welcome return to the matchday squad for the first time since being forced off through injury in our FA Cup sixth round win at Bournemouth at the end of March and starts on the bench.

Teams

CITY XI: Ederson, Nunes, Dias, Gvardiol, O’Reilly, Kovacic, Gundogan, De Bruyne (C), Bernardo, Doku, Marmoush.

Subs: Ortega, Haaland, Grealish, Nico, Akanji, Savinho, Foden, Lewis, McAtee.

WOLVES XI: Sa, Semedo, Doherty, Agbadou, Toti Gomes, Ait-Nouri, Joao Gomes, Andre, Munetsi, Bellegard, Cunha.

Subs: Bentley, Bueno, Hwang, R. Gomes, Doyle, Sarabia, Guedes, Dijga, Lima

PREVIOUS MEETING

City dramatically beat Wolves 2-1 in October’s reverse Premier League fixture at Molineux thanks to John Stones’ last-gasp winner.

The hosts took the lead on seven minutes through Jorgen Strand Larsen before Josko Gvardiol equalised ahead of the interval.

With the clock ticking past the 90-minute mark and the likelihood of a draw growing, Stones headed home in the fifth minute of stoppage time to secure three points.

      LAST TIME OUT

The Blues booked our place into the FA Cup final last time out with a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest at Wembley.

Rico Lewis opened the scoring inside just two minutes in the capital and Gvardiol doubled our lead in the second half.

It means we will lock horns with Crystal Palace next month in the annual showpiece.
