However, A Bernardo Silva strike, plus Erling Haaland’s first City hat-trick, completed an unforgettable turnaround at the Etihad Stadium.
It was a similar story at St. James’ Park last week, with the duo both getting on the scoresheet once again to earn a point in a thrilling 3-3 draw.
And while Brown would of course have preferred City to comfortably see out the result, he admits that our performances offer unforgettable entertainment for spectators.
The former City midfielder said of our 4-2 win over Crystal Palace: “That was truly brilliant football. I was watching the Newcastle game last week thinking: ‘this is brilliant’ - throwback games, end to end.
“I know you want more control, you don’t want to be going behind or conceding goals but I don’t think it gets better than that.
“[Watching] Aston Villa last season, watching the comeback, it’s just magical football.
“That was a special half, it was brilliant.”
It’s a quick turnaround for City, as we prepare to host Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday 31 August.
Steve Cooper’s side have started well in their first top flight campaign in 23 years, and Brown is excited to see what sort of challenge they’ll pose for Pep Guardiola’s men.
“[They are] Another team who are obviously dreaming to play here in the Premier League.
“They’ve strengthened, they’ve made good additions but you can imagine this is the one game they’re looking forward to [in the early part of the season].
“They’ll want to come here and do well. They’re a good footballing side. Forest will be ready for it.”
