With all 15 of our Euro 2020 participants progressing from the group stages, it’s safe to say that City have left an indelible mark on this summer’s competition.
However, the conclusion of the round of 16 on Tuesday saw another impressive statistic come to the fore, as Oleksandr Zinchenko’s opening strike in Ukraine’s clash with Sweden saw him become the fifth City player to find the net at Euro 2020.
No other Club side has seen as many different players score at the tournament, with only Italian side Atalanta matching the feat thus far.
With Wales, Holland, Portugal and Germany all bowing out in the last 16, Matt Smith, Nathan Ake, Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias and Ilkay Gundogan’s tournament hopes have been dashed for another three years at least.
However, ten of our City stars’ dreams of Euro 2020 glory remain alive and kicking.
Below, you can find out where each of them stand with the quarter-finals looming large and which of them has found the back of the net so far.
Raheem Sterling - England
The first City player to find the net at this summer’s tournament was our wing wizard, grabbing the game’s only goal in England’s opening victory over Croatia.
After a goalless draw with Scotland, Sterling repeated the feat in a 1-0 win over the Czech Republic to secure the Three Lions top spot in Group D and a last 16 berth against Gundogan’s Germany.
The forward’s scoring touch certainly didn’t desert him against Die Mannschaft, with his opening strike making him only the second England player to score each of England’s first three goals at a major tournament since Gary Lineker at the 1986 World Cup.
Harry Kane rounded off the scoring to hand Gareth Southgate’s side an historic 2-0 victory at Wembley, setting up a quarter-final tie with Ukraine.
With momentum gathering after four successive shutouts, thanks in no small part to the defensive diligence of John Stones and Kyle Walker, confidence is surely sky high in the England camp.
And with Sterling in inspired form, and midfield marvel Phil Foden also hoping to make his mark, England will believe they can go all the way.
Kevin De Bruyne - Belgium
Despite missing Belgium’s opening win over Russia, De Bruyne immediately hit the ground running on Matchday Two against a resurgent Denmark.
The midfielder hoodwinked two Danish defenders with a clever touch after seemingly shaping to shoot before laying on an assist for Thorgan Hazard to level after the break, before grabbing the game’s winning goal with 20 to play.
Drifting out to the left, the midfielder’s late run went untracked and, after being teed up by Eden Hazard, launched a devastating low drive in at Kasper Schmeichel’s near post.
And De Bruyne was at his best once again when the Red Devils secured top spot in Group B with a 2-0 win over Finland, setting up Romelu Lukaku for the game’s final goal just after the 80-minute mark.
The midfielder was again beginning to dictate things in Belgium’s last 16 clash with Portugal but was forced off with an ankle injury after being caught by Joao Palhinha late in the first half.
His entire home nation will be holding its breath in the hope that the PFA Player of the Year will be fit enough to feature again at Euro 2020 after lighting up its early stages.
Aymeric Laporte & Ferran Torres - Spain
Two of our four Spanish stars were on target in a 5-0 blitz of Slovakia which secured La Roja’s last 16 spot on Matchday Three.
Laporte, lining up alongside Eric Garcia at the heart of the defence, grabbed his first international goal with a looping header in first half stoppage time to double Luis Enrique’s side’s lead.
And Torres followed suit in impressive fashion from the substitutes’ bench, finding the net with a delightful back-heel from Pablo Sarabia’s low cross into the near post.
The City winger got himself on the scoresheet once again in a thrilling victory over Croatia in the round of 16, where Spain became the first side in European Championship history to score five or more goals in consecutive matches
Starting the match in Copenhagen, Torres looked to have sealed the victory when his cool finish under the onrushing Dominik Livakovic put La Roja 3-1 up with 13 to play.
However, in one of Euro 2020’s most captivating matches thus far, an incredible late fightback saw Croatia force extra time.
Spain would go on to win 5-3, with Rodrigo introduced late on to help shore up the defence after extra time goals from Alvaro Morata and Mikel Oyarzabal had put the three-time champions back in front.
La Roja will face Switzerland in the last eight of Euro 2020, who incredibly knocked out reigning World Champions, France, on penalties later that evening.
Oleksandr Zinchenko - Ukraine
City’s fifth and final goalscorer helped his home nation make history in a dramatic 2-1 last 16 triumph over Group E winners, Sweden.
After being used as part of a midfield three in the groups, Zinchenko was deployed as a left wing back in Glasgow and, inside half an hour, had grabbed the game’s opening goal.
Drifting in unchecked at the far post, the City man arrowed an incisive volley back across goal from Andriy Yarmolenko’s clever ball across to put Ukraine in front.
Emil Forsberg equalised for the Swedes before the break and, with legs tiring and clearcut chances sparse, the game looked destined for penalties.
However, there was still just enough time for one final moment of quality from Zinchenko, who whipped an inch-perfect ball into the Swedish box in the 121st minute and onto the head of Artem Dovbyk.
The substitute made no mistake, cueing scenes of pandemonium among the Ukrainian players as they won their first ever knockout game at the European Championships and set up a quarter-final clash with England in the process.
