The annual prize, awarded to a player who made a stunning contribution to their team’s fortunes in one particular game, has six nominees - and City have two candidates.
Kevin De Bruyne’s stunning return to action away to Newcastle last January could not have been more impactful.
The Belgian had been sidelined for almost five months following a hamstring operation and arrived onto the St James’ park pitch with the Blues trailing 2-1 and 70 minutes on the clock.
Within five minutes he had expertly placed a low shot into the bottom left corner to make it 2-2 and in stoppage time, he lofted a sumptuous ball into the box for Oscar Bobb to snatch a dramatic winner and ensure the Blues left Tyneside with all three points.
It was a stunning return.
Ortega Moreno’s save away to Tottenham is also nominated.
The German keeper replaced the injured Ederson on 70 minutes and would go on to make three crucial saves, but none more important than on 86 minutes, when Son Heung-min raced clear of the City defence only to see his low shot stopped by the outstretched right leg of Ortega Moreno.
It undoubtedly ensured City won the game rather than drawing and kept the Club’s destiny in our own hands – of course, resulting in an historic fourth successive Premier League title.
The other nominees are Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez’s brace off the bench as 10-man Liverpool beat Newcastle 2-1; Ollie Watkins’ hat-trick in the 6-1 victory against Brighton; Cole Palmer’s treble in a 4-3 victory over Manchester United and Scott McTominay’s added time double to give United a 2-1 win over Brentford.
Polls close at 15:00 (UK) on Sunday 26 May.
