team news

City have made four changes from the side that started against Real Madrid in midweek.

Ilkay Gundogan, Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling and Oleksandr Zinchenko come in for Phil Foden, Bernardo and Riyad Mahrez who drop to the bench, while Kyle Walker is injured.

Subs: Steffen, Ake, Bernardo, Fernandinho, Mahrez, Foden, Egan-Riley, Mbete, Palmer

Newcastle: Dubravka, Krafth, Lascelles, Burn, Targett, Guimarães, S Longstaff, Joelinton, Almirón, Wood, Saint-Maximin

In front of Ederson, Joao Cancelo and Oleks Zinchenko will play at right back and left back respectively with Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte in central defence.

Rodrigo will anchor the midfield, with Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne slightly more advanced.

Pep Guardiola preview

“We were close (to reaching the Champions League final) and could not do it.

“The players wanted to play again in the final of the Champions League.

“But for this club to compete against Real Madrid was a joy. Don’t forget how well we played a week ago here. But we could not do it.

“We were good. I said after congratulations Liverpool and Madrid because they deserve to be in the final.

“Next season we will try again and if it doesn’t work we will try again. This is when we are a club that is good.

“Name all the clubs in Europe, the big ones, they are there every year.

“And we are there every year now. We didn’t achieve it, yeah okay.

“Next day we will do it. Good moments we celebrate, bad moments more sad than usual.

“Madrid are in the final because they deserve it.  We were not close enough, but we were there. Next season we will try, knowing it is so difficult.”
