PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW
Pep Guardiola addressed the media on Friday afternoon. In the press conference he was asked for his thoughts about Old Trafford and the hosts.
“Old Trafford, when I was in Barcelona or Bayern Munich and I travelled to England it was always special,” Guardiola said in his prematch news conference.
“It is a special place and here it is special for our fans.
“It is a game not like an FA Cup final or last games of the season that defines winning or not the Premier League, still we have only played nine fixtures and there are 87 points to play. We have to be focused.
“United always have been - it doesn’t matter the manager - always they are a tough opponent,” he said.
“The qualities of the individuals they have, the stadium, the character they have, the momentum.
“They can score goals, we know the quality they have. Always that has been and always it will be.”
PREVIOUS MEETING
In our last trip to Old Trafford in January this year, we suffered derby disappointment as two late Manchester United goals earned the hosts a 2-1 win in the 189th Manchester derby.
We also faced the Red Devils in June this year in the FA Cup final, with Ilkay Gundogan’s brilliant brace of goals seeing us secure the domestic Double for only the second time in our history.
LAST TIME OUT
In our last league fixture, first half goals from Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland helped us return to action after the international break in winning style as we overcame Brighton 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium.
On Wednesday evening, we cruised to a 3-1 Champions League victory over Young Boys in Switzerland.
As for United, they overcame Sheffield United 2-1 at Bramall Lane, before beating FC Copenhagen in midweek in the Champions League 1-0 at Old Trafford.
