Omar Marmoush expressed his delight after returning to City's starting XI with a goal to help propel us to a 2-0 Premier League victory over Wolves.

After scoring twice for Egypt and missing six Premier League fixtures during the Africa Cup of Nations in a fourth-placed finish for The Pharaohs, Marmoush returned to City with a cameo off the bench in the Champions League defeat to Bodo/Glimt, but was recalled to the starting team in the league for the first time since August.

The forward repaid the faith of manager Pep Guardiola by poking us ahead after just six minutes from a wonderful Matheus Nunes cross, before striking the post later in the first-half.

Antoine Semenyo grabbed his third goal in four City appearances before the interval, and then went on to crash an effort off the crossbar in the second period, as we claimed our first league victory of 2026.

“It is important to score a goal and help the team,” said Marmoush in an interview after the game.

“I am very happy to be here after AFCON and help my team.

“I saw that Matheus [Nunes] broke through and it was a good finish.

“I’m happy for the goal and happy for the three points.”

The victory also saw a City debut for defender Marc Guéhi, who hardly put a foot wrong in an impressive showing at the back, helping us to a league clean sheet for the first time since our new year’s day draw with Sunderland.

Marmoush was impressed with the team’s fighting spirit and positive mentality during the victory.

“We fought until the end, showed a very good mentality from the beginning,” he continued.

“He [Pep] wanted us to put our hearts out there and fight for every ball.

“We just try to get our legs and mind fresh again and then we go again.”
