Nathan Ake says being newly crowned as champions of the world has only intensified City’s desire to secure even more silverware.

The Dutch defender and his Etihad colleagues created English football history on Friday night when we beat Fluminense 4-0 in Jeddah to claim a first-ever FIFA Club World Cup.

In the process it also competed a remarkable haul of all five major trophies – Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, UEFA Super and now Club World Cup in a calendar year – the first time an English team has achieved that feat.

But rather than resting on our laurels, Ake – who produced a superb individual display against the Copa Libertadores winners - said success in Saudi Arabia had only further sharpened City’s ravenous appetite for success.

“The feeling afterwards is one of satisfaction but when you are winning you want to keep that feeling,” Ake declared after City’s joyous trophy lift in the Red Sea port city.

“You know how it is to lose games and stuff and we don’t want to recreate that feeling.

“We know what we want to do and we just want to keep on going - fundamentally as players we demand it as well. It’s not the end – we want to keep going.

“Everyone is so proud and happy - not just the players but the staff behind the scenes.

“They work so hard for us to make sure that we can achieve these things and it’s a great achievement.

“We are very happy to win a lot of titles and to be able to do it in one year is incredible.

“This is the finish line, this is the one that tops off everything. It’s one that you only get to compete for when you win the Champions League so it’s not an easy one to get so yeah it’s a great feeling.

“Fighting for this title was the first objective and now we go back to the Premier League and that’s where we focus now.”

The Dutch defender also made plain his huge admiration and respect for the vision and leadership of manager Pep Guardiola who has guided City to our historic haul of five major trophies this year.

In the process of leading us to the Club World Cup, Pep also created yet more history as it was the fourth time he had led a side to success in the showpiece – a feat that saw him overtake Carlo Ancelotti’s former record haul of three.

For his part, Ake said his football education continued to be shaped from the manager’s unique guidance and insight.

“With Pep every day is a new day and every day you learn something,” Ake added.

“Technically the way he sees football is incredible and he sees things differently from others.

“He’s the best manager I’ve had so far, and he just stands out and he’s a top man as well but yes he’s an incredible coach.”
