Find out everything you need to know about City's Premier League trip to Newcastle United...

team news

Pep Guardiola has named an unchanged City XI against Newcastle.

The boss is clearly happy with the balance of the team from defence to attack and so sticks with what worked so well against the Premier League champions.

It could be an historic day, too, with the possibility of Erling Haaland becoming the fastest player ever to reach 100 Premier League goals - on the ground that the current record holder, Alan Shearer, is still a legend.

Opposing manager - Eddie Howe

Despite being just 47, Howe has already been a manager for a whopping 16 years.

He took over at Bournemouth in 2009 after being forced to end his playing career early due to injury and subsequently guided them to promotion from the fourth tier to the third.

He then left for a brief, unsuccessful spell at Burnley in 2011 before returning to the south coast in October 2012 and continuing where he left off, getting them to the Premier League in 2015.

They stayed in the top-flight for five seasons before relegation saw the end of his second spell with the Cherries.

2021 saw his appointment at Newcastle, who were looking upwards after years of underperformance.

Since then, he’s taken them into the Champions League and even won the League Cup, their first major trophy since 1955.

Danger men

Newcastle midfielders Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali are regarded as two of the best across the Premier League, with Tonali dictating play from deep and Guimaraes seeking to push further up the pitch this season.

Ahead of them, German striker Nick Woltemade has made an instant impact since his summer signing. His height suggests he would favour a target man role, but his close control and vision on the ball has attracted plaudits from far and wide.

Either side of him, the Magpies have the likes of Harvey Barnes, Jacob Murphy, Anthony Gordon and Anthony Elanga all to pick from.

Newcastle’s iconic home is also a key factor in every trip to face them, with the stadium’s atmosphere a key part of their home form.

Pep Guardiola preview

The boss will speak to assembled media at the City Football Academy at 13:30 (UK) on Friday 21 November.

We’ll have live coverage on mancity.com and our official app, with written and video recaps shortly after it concludes.

Please note, the time of the press conference is subject to change.

Previous meeting

Back in February, Omar Marmoush scored a spectacular 14-minute hat-trick as City won 4-0 at the Etihad.

It was the Egyptian’s first goals for the Club and kept us on track for finishing in the Champions League places with James McAtee adding a late fourth.

Last time out

City did not necessarily want the last international break of 2025 to come just after our emphatic 3-0 victory over Liverpool.

Jeremy Doku was in inspired form for the Blues, stretching the play and running at the Liverpool defence over and over again.

He earned a penalty early on but Erling Haaland’s effort from the spot was saved.

The Norwegian wasn’t about to give up of course, nodding our opener just before the half hour mark.

We doubled our advantage on the cusp of half-time with a deflected Nico strike from the edge of the box before Doku topped off a sparkling display with a curling effort that took the breath away.
