Looking back at events - good or bad - that happened on this day in our history...

Tuesday 19th April 2016

Sergio Aguero scored his 100th Premier League goal in contentious circumstances as City drew 1-1 at Newcastle.

Aguero appeared to be offside when he headed home after 14 minutes, but his goal was allowed to stand.

The Argentine became the 25th player in Premier League history to reach a century of goals, and only Alan Shearer got there quicker.

It took Aguero 147 games to notch a ton, whereas Shearer raced to 100 in just 124!

Vurnon Anita equalised with a low curling shot just after the half hour mark and the result left a frustrated City third in the Premier League table with four matches remaining, 12 points adrift of leaders Leicester.

Billy Meredith, one of City’s greatest players, passed away at his home in Withington, Manchester.

Born in Chirk, North Wales, Meredith used to cycle from his tiny mining village to Hyde Road to play for City and then cycle home afterwards.

He remains, without doubt, one of the greatest players ever to represent Manchester City.

Meredith was something of a controversial character but is ranked by many alongside the great Sir Stanley Matthews in stature and an icon for all football fans and the media in his day.

With 151 goals for the club, he is among our all-time top scorers.

He also won 22 Welsh caps as a City player and holds the record for being the oldest footballer to turn out for the Blues. He was aged just 120 days short of his 50th birthday in his last game for the club – a 2–0 defeat to Newcastle United in an FA Cup semi-final.
