1989
City beat United 5-1 in a classic match dubbed the Maine Road massacre - an unforgettable day and one of the biggest derby triumphs in decades.
David Oldfield and Trevor Morley each score within the space of a minute to put Mel Machin’s side 2-0 up, sending the 47,000 crowd wild.
Ian Bishop makes it 3-0 before the break with a diving header and though a spectacular Mark Hughes effort makes it 3-1 just after the break, further goals from Oldfield and Andy Hinchcliffe make it 5-1 with just over an hour gone.
There’s no more scoring, but plenty of time for the sell-out crowd to taunt the travelling Reds, many of whom are denied exit when attempting to leave with 30 minutes still to play.
2001
City beat Grimsby 4-0 thanks to goals from Shaun Goater, Darren Huckerby (2) and Steve Howey.
It was our first win in five league matches and proved the be the catalyst for a fine run of form.

Palace held out until the 44th minute before Leroy Sane broke the deadlock and a quickfire double by Raheem Sterling deflated the visitors’ initially stubborn resistance.
Late goals by Sergio Aguero and Fabian Delph completed a 5-0 rout - the first time since 1958/59 that a top flight side has hit five or more in three successive games.
However, the game was marred by a serious knee injury sustained by Benjamin Mendy.
