A chilly October evening sees City host Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest at Maine Road with a place in the League Cup last 16 up for grabs.
Mel Machin’s side were a force to be reckoned with now we had started to click.
Forest skipper Stuart Pearce would not have been pleased with his side’s display as Imre Varadi scores twice and Paul Stewart adds a third to dump team out emphatically by a score of 3-0.

David White nets twice in five minutes to send the home side into a two-goal lead - and the Blue half of Manchester into raptures.
The striker opens the scoring on the 20-minute mark, sweeping into the bottom corner, before stabbing home a quickfire second on the half-volley.
Mark Hughes halves the deficit with a header but Colin Hendry restores the hosts’ cushion with a cool finish with just 11 minutes remaining.
City look to be in control but United fight back late on with two goals in three minutes from Brian McClair.

Kevin Horlock nets the only goal of the game at Maine Road to defeat Ipswich Town - but the night belongs to Nicky Weaver, who produces an astonishing display to preserve a crucial clean sheet.
Weaver thwarts wave after wave of attack, somehow keeping the ball out of the City net with a string of stunning saves.
His heroics clinch a pivotal win against our Division One title challengers and the exuberant ‘keeper celebrates with his joyful fans by cartwheeling on the pitch at full-time!
The following May, City go on to edge Ipswich to an automatic promotion spot on the final day of the season.
