City fans had every right to feel our name was on the FA Cup after already playing seven games in the run up to the semi-final.
Though our’ league form was patchy, we at least had Billy Meredith back in the side having returned from Manchester United a few years earlier.
The fact he was almost 50 didn’t stop Ernest Magnall from picking him, but even the Welsh wizard couldn’t stop a very strong Newcastle United side edging home by two goals and going on to win the trophy at the newly-built Wembley Stadium.

2010
Argentine cult hero Carlos Tevez scored his second hat-trick for City as the Blues comfortably beat Wigan Athletic 3-0.
It was one of the quickest trebles in the Club’s history, taking just 12 minutes to complete and kept Roberto Mancini’s men in fifth, two points off the Champions League qualifying places.
“Carlos is a fantastic striker and I hope he continues like this in the run-in,” Mancini said afterwards. “If we fight like we did in the second half, we will probably finish fourth.”
2015
In the opening match of the 2015 WSL season, Nick Cushing’s City drew 0-0 away at Birmingham.
The season ended with City qualifying for the UEFA Women’s Champions League for the first time in our history.
