1990
City legend Peter Doherty dies aged 76.
Signed for a club record fee of £10,000, the elegant inside forward was the star man as the Club was crowned champions of England for the first time in 1936-37.
The Northern Irishman scored 32 times in 45 games that season and continued to find the net regularly in the following two campaigns as he became one of the legends of the game.

However, Doherty was unable to build on his City career due to the outbreak of World War Two, during which he served in the RAF as a PT instructor-sergeant.
When peacetime returned, his playing career resumed with Derby County, Huddersfield Town and Doncaster Rovers, before he began life as a manager, earning a reputation as one of the most revolutionary coaches of his time.
