Academy graduate Bobb was an 83rd minute substitute, coming on for Phil Foden in the 3-1 home victory over Red Star Belgrade to open our Group G account with three valuable points.
Boss Pep Guardiola has been happy with Bobb’s impact in the first team group, praising the midfielder’s versatility, courage and industry.
The 20-year-old was delighted to get the chance to experience elite European competition under the tutelage of Guardiola.
“Great win and we’re all very happy and it’s a great start to the new campaign,” Bobb said.
“I’m very pleased to make my debut [in the Champions League] - to come into such a good team, I’m very grateful.
“The manager prepared us well - coming up against a very tough opponent. It was a good first half in terms of a lot of possession and we had chances, but we missed that final bit.
“Of course, it was frustrating [to go in 0-1 down at the break], but we reunited at half time, came out and got the job done.
“We kept doing what we were doing, created chances and the goal came.”
Bobb will now be eager to make an even bigger impact across 2023/24 as he vies for minutes alongside the likes of Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku and Foden.
He’s a big admirer of the trio and insists they are ‘big footsteps to follow’ but it won’t stop him aiming to put his best foot forward to get more minutes under his belt.
“Coming into the environment which is the best in the world drives me and them still being humble is great.
“Jack [Grealish] - with what he’s doing for the club in the past couple of seasons, Jeremy [Doku] - for what he did in France and Phil [Foden] - he’s been one of the best young players in the world for the past three or four years so it’s big footsteps to follow but it’s a big motivation.”
