The Spaniard’s side currently sit fourth in the Premier League, chasing a first ever qualification for the Champions League since it was revamped from the European Cup.
It is our third successive game against the other top-four teams in the title race following successive draws with Liverpool and Arsenal.
Villa’s challenge in the title race maybe unexpected for many, but ahead of the game on Wednesday at 20:15 (UK), Guardiola said Emery has always been a top coach.
“[They are] excellent the way they play,” the City boss said at his prematch press conference. “Unai Emery and the consistency in every season, Villa is impressive and always he has done really well.
“It’s not a surprise the quality of him and his management and the quality of the team.
“I didn’t watch all games because I don’t think all managers watch all the games of opponents.

“I think he’s playing the same system. They have really good set-pieces and transitions with the two incredible fast players up front.
“The shape is really clear what they do. They can do high pressing and afterwards defend very well with a back four or back five and a really structured line. [They have] an exceptional keeper.
“That is why they are where they are, fighting to be there.”
As well as the quality of goalkeeper Emile Martinez and forwards Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey, midfielder Douglas Luiz is having another exceptional season.
The Brazilian, who joined City as a teenager, is only behind Watkins and Bailey for goal contributions and Guardiola is happy to see him playing so well.
“We met a little bit and he seemed like an exceptional guy,” he added. “For the work permit, it was not possible to be with us.
“After making steps, Girona and other places he settled perfectly at Villa. I’m happy for him. He’s playing really good.”
City are likely to be without Kyle Walker, Ederson and Nathan Ake for the clash as they recover from injury setbacks although John Stones is in contention to play.
Guardiola is expecting another huge test against a side that beat us 1-0 earlier in the season in the reverse fixture at Villa Park.
And the boss said Emery’s side were good value for their victory.
“[It’s] the only time we deserved to lose a game,” he said.
