Pep Guardiola has insisted he will not allow his players to forget City’s journey to last season’s Treble.

After the historic achievement of 2022/23, Guardiola’s men return to competitive action in Sunday’s Community Shield meeting with Arsenal.

With seven trophies up for grabs this year, the boss believes the success of spring can inspire his team to more glory over the coming months.

Guardiola insists the Treble was won through hard work as much as talent, and promised to remind his players of that as the Premier League gets under way next week following the Wembley curtain raiser.

“I don’t allow them to forget anything we have done. How do you do that? To forget the good moments, we cannot forget them,” he said.

“The players know what they have to do. The other teams are going to be more aggressive and play better.

“This is the level we need to be at. We train less because we don’t have time but we need to play to get our patterns and principles.

“We know how difficult it is to win one single game. We have to be humble to put the effort in every single game.

“We have done it in the past, why should we not do it now? What we did belongs in our hearts and minds but while we are here we cannot stop.”

Although City will be playing for the first silverware of the season on Sunday, Guardiola is just focused on being at our best.

The Catalan is refusing to look ahead to potential titles later in the campaign, and instead promising to ensure his players are working hard.

“We have to think about how to beat Arsenal,” he stated in Friday’s pre-match press conference.

“Always we are focused every season on what we can do better and play better than we did against Inter.

“This is the challenge, no more than that. Afterwards we will see. I never promised titles, I promised effort and that we will do our best. After we will see.

“We are closer to not repeating the Treble than winning the Treble. No team has ever won four Premier Leagues in a row. We started last season, lost 3-1 in the Community Shield against Liverpool. Every time we arrive in the last two or three months in good shape.”
