Pep Guardiola is refusing to think about winning the Premier League title, despite City needing just five points from our remaining five games of the season to secure our third league success in four years.

Should City beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday and second-placed Manchester United lose at home to Liverpool on Sunday, we would have an unassailable lead with four matches remaining.

But Guardiola says Palace have caused his side a lot of problems in recent seasons, and with his side tired after playing a difficult run of away matches in succession, he expects a tough assignment.

And with United still in fine form, underscored by their 6-2 win over Roma on Thursday evening in the Europa League semi-finals, he is taking nothing for granted.

“Let me try to win at Crystal Palace,” he said. “Don’t ask me what I will feel when I haven’t felt it. I am sorry I know you are curious because you anticipate it.

“United are an extraordinary team and we need five points. Tomorrow we have an incredible opportunity to make that step.

“When it happens, you can ask me anything you want about my feelings. I can’t answer now because I didn’t experience it.

“We now need to recover from Paris - it’s our sixth game in a row away. We are tired in many aspects.

“Tomorrow we play at 12.30, so we don’t have extra time to recover from Paris. This is my only concern.

“I am sorry not to answer your questions. But it is Crystal Palace, Roy Hodgson’s team. Every time we faced them, we had a lot of problems to win the game.

“Let me travel to London, wake up good and try to win the game. The rest we cannot control.

“It’s a tough job to do. Always, I don’t remember an easy game against them.”

City have already secured a Carabao Cup success this season after last weekend’s 1-0 win over Tottenham at Wembley.

And with the Premier League and Champions League trophies still in our sights, this could end up as our most successful ever season.

But Guardiola believes our current status as one of Europe’s elite teams isn’t simply down to the work he has done since arriving in the summer of 2016 – it’s because of the strength of the organisation created under the ownership of Sheikh Mansour.

“In our period together, these five seasons, it is the same like the first Premier League we won. We are almost the same guys and same identity,” he said.

“The era involves Sheikh Mansour and Khaldoon Al Mubarak, when they took over the club they made the development in terms of players and also the facilities in terms of being professional in all departments of the club.

“I feel it. I came from Barcelona and Bayern Munich so I know what I am talking about.

“It’s not just a club with incredible players, it’s more than that.

“Mark Hughes started to build and then Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini had success.

“This decade was a successful era for this club and organisation. It doesn’t belong just to the people here now.”
