Guardiola has won the prestigious competition twice since arriving at the Blues just under 10 years ago.
He masterminded victory over Watford as we won the domestic Treble in 2019 having collected the League Cup and Premier League earlier that season.
And in 2023, our victory over Manchester United formed the second leg of an unforgettable Treble after success in the Premier League and before one glorious night in Istanbul where we triumphed in the Champions League for the first time in our history.
City, in fact, have reached the semi-final stage of the FA Cup in eight of Guardiola’s nine seasons at the Etihad to date.
And the Blues have been in the last three finals following up success over United with defeat to the Red Devils and a narrow loss to Crystal Palace last time out.
Guardiola believes this recent history in the world’s oldest cup competition is proof of his and the team’s serious approach to Saturday’s 20:00 (UK) kick-off.
“How many finals did we play in the last years? How many semi-finals? A lot, that means always FA Cup is so important.
“We are going to travel to Newcastle to win and get to the next round.
“That’s definitely 100%.”
This game is the fifth time we’ve faced Newcastle this season.
The Magpies beat us in the Premier League at St James Park before we defeated Eddie Howe’s team twice home and away to reach the final of the Carabao Cup followed up by home success in the Premier League for the Blues.
Guardiola insists there’ll certainly be no surprises this time around.
“It’s the same for them,” he said of the challenges of facing each other once again.
“It is what it is, we know each other quite well.
“We know each other, no surprises. It’s not the first time this season. How many times with Newcastle and Eddie Howe have we played. A lot.”
