Pep Guardiola has sent his best wishes to our U18s ahead of Monday’s FA Youth Cup final against Chelsea.

And the boss heaped praise on our Academy setup, which he believes is producing players with first-team quality.

City swept past Blackburn in Friday’s semi-final, winning 4-0 and delivering an impressive all-round display.

The victory means we now face Chelsea in Monday evening’s showpiece final – the fifth time we’ve made this stage of the prestigious competition in the last six years.

Pep wished manager Carlos Vicens, his staff and players all the best – and believes we are in possession of a fine crop of youngsters who can supplement his first-team squad.

“When we arrived [in 2016], we had Jadon Sancho, Phil Foden - there were good players,” he said.

“But right now, we have a good generation.

“Taylor [Harwood-Bellis], Tommy Doyle, Cole [Palmer], Felix Nmecha, Jayden Braaf, [Liam]Delap - there are six, seven interesting players – James McAtee, too.

“There are a few players we can count on; can trust a lot and they can help us.

“Good luck on Monday, congratulations on qualifying to Carlos and his staff.

“On Monday, we will watch the final against Chelsea.”

Meanwhile, Guardiola continues to be impressed by Ferran Torres.

The 20-year-old has played as a central striker in our last two games, scoring in the win over Marseille and causing Sheffield United all sorts of problems as we emerged 1-0 winners on Saturday.

It’s an unusual role for Torres, having spent much of his time at the top level operating in wide areas.

But Pep says he has been delighted with his attitude and performance.

“No, we didn’t think about playing him there before he came,” he said.

“We wanted him to play as a winger - one on one with space to run into.

“But we struggle a lot with [injuries to our] strikers.

“He did really well [against Sheffield United]. He had three chances, made incredible movements in behind and worked a lot.

“He was even better than he played against Olympique Marseille.

“He’s shy and calm, but he wants to learn and he helps a lot.

“When we can train - because right now we are doing very little, we work in the office - but when we train, he is an incredible finisher.

“He has a sense of goal and quality in front of goal. He had chances, unfortunately couldn’t score, but he was there.

“Playing against three defenders, there’s no space. He fought to find spaces and the chances were there.

“One day we will score more goals.”
