Pep Guardiola has confirmed that everyone is fit for the Champions League semi-final second leg with Real Madrid with the exception of Nathan Ake.

Following the 1-1 draw in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu, the tie is finely poised with the possibility that City could secure a place in the Champions League final for a second time.

Ake missed the game in Madrid after being substituted in the 2-1 victory over Leeds on May 6 and was also absent for Sunday’s 3-0 win over Everton as we moved to within three points of a third successive title.

Guardiola made four changes for the victory at Goodison Park with Kevin De Bruyne remaining on the bench but the City boss confirmed the Belgian midfielder was training as normal.

“Except Nathan, everyone is fit,” the boss said when asked for a fitness update.

The Etihad promises to be rocking for such a huge game and Guardiola believes the fans will help the players in the difficult moments against the current Champions League holders and 14 times winners of the trophy.

“I know they’ll be close to us because they know what this team has done over the last years,” he added. “They will not leave us alone, I’m pretty sure.

“In the bad moments they will be with us and in the good they will put us first.

“The way to put the pressure on our opponents is on our game. We play 11 versus 11 and our game will dictate what you have to do to reach the final.

“But of course in the bad moments they are there and will be there.”

But the City boss says they will not get past the Spanish side purely with hard work and emotion alone.

With a side brimming with world class stars, Guardiola said he will need to make tactical tweaks to improve on the performance in Madrid eight days ago when De Bruyne’s 25-yard strike secured a draw following an opener from Vinicius Junior.

“The emotion is there and the emotion will be high, it has to be high in these games,” he said. “But just this is not going to beat a team like Real Madrid.

“We have a gameplan and we have to execute it a little bit better than we did it in the first leg.

“We have to adjust something, we have to do it a little better to create more chances for our strikers and our people up front - get more balls in these positions, knowing that the transitions, the ball possession and the quality that they have in all departments is really high.

“It could not be any different, we’re playing against Real Madrid in the semi-final of the Champions League, we expect the toughest opponents we can face right now in the last few years.

“This is the challenge, we embrace it, we get it and go for it.”
