Pep Guardiola has stated Nathan Ake will not feature in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final with Sheffield United.

The defender was substituted in the second half of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Bayern Munich with a hamstring injury.

Speaking in his press conference on Friday, the boss conceded he does not know how long Ake will be unavailable for selection but confirmed that he will not play at Wembley.

“He’s not ready for tomorrow but I don’t know the damage,” he said when asked about the No.6’s fitness.

Phil Foden has not played since surgery on his appendix during last month’s international break but returned to the bench on Wednesday.

While Foden is nearing a return, the Catalan would not be drawn on whether the England international will start against Sheffield United.

“He was on the bench [in Munich] after two training sessions and three weeks without training,” he said.

“Each day that passes he will be better.”

The Blades are second in the Championship and require just two more points to seal a return to the Premier League.

Having caught up on their recent performances in the last two days, Guardiola believes our opponents’ playing style remains similar to their two recent campaigns in the top-flight.

The Bramall Lane club were in the Premier League in 2019/20 and 2020/21, losing all four meetings with City during that time.

“It’s quite similar to the way they played under Chris Wilder. They did an incredible first season [in the Premier League].  A lot of patterns.

“They are one game away from Premier League promotion and it will be an extremely difficult game.

“For the quality of the set pieces, build up and building the channels. They are so aggressive in the duals. This is the feeling I have. We need to be there at 4:45 to deserve to be in the final.”
