With Liverpool’s lead in the Premier League close to unassailable, the City boss admits preparations will now be geared towards the two remaining knock-out competitions.
“Premier League we cannot win,” he said. “We can win the FA Cup or Champions League.
“[The game against Sheffield Wednesday] was a final. We knew that. We talked a lot about this game.
“In the end we had success. It’s important we are there. We want to be in the draw, and we are.
“This is our fourth game away in a row and we have another one next Sunday at Old Trafford soon.”
Guardiola also explained the absence of Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker.
De Bruyne suffered a shoulder injury in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final and wasn’t fit enough to make the trip to Hillsborough.
And with Walker having played 30 times this season across all competitions, he was given a well-earned rest ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby.
“Kevin had a shoulder problem and was not fit,” he added.
“The last minutes he fell down in a bad position and had a problem. We don’t know how long, hopefully not much.
“Kyle has played a lot lately so we gave him rest for the next games.”
