Pep Guardiola, the most successful Manchester City manager of all-time, turns 55 today – happy birthday, boss!

With 18 trophies won during his nine full seasons at the Etihad Stadium, the Catalan is simply one of the greatest coaches of all time.

To mark his birthday, we’ve collated some of those incredible stats he’s clocked up since joining the Club in 2016…

Silver success

Silverware is the key statistic and no one comes close to Guardiola’s haul of 18 trophies midway through his 10th season in England.

Liverpool have managed nine trophies during that period with two Premier League titles compared to City’s six.

Both teams, along with Chelsea, have won the Champions League although City are the only side to qualify for Europe’s top competition in each of the last 10 seasons.

City, Arsenal and Manchester United have all won the FA Cup twice in the past nine seasons while our four League Cup successes is comfortably the most.

Winning machine

To get the opportunity to lift trophies, it’s about winning matches consistently and no one is better than Guardiola’s City.

He now has 398 victories in all competitions at an average win rate of 70.3%, even more impressive when you consider that we consistently get to the final stages of all competitions.

Liverpool have been Guardiola’s biggest rival during his time here and have won 330 matches at a rate of 62.6%.

Chelsea are third with 308 wins at a 56.6% rate with Arsenal on 304 victories, 58.2% of all their games.

Our winning run of 21 matches in 2020/21 was almost double that of the nearest streaks.

Arsenal and Aston Villa have both put together 11-game streaks – as have City on two other occasions as well as two other 10-match runs!

Golden goals

City have been the great entertainers of the past nine seasons with comfortably more goals than any other English Club.

Only four teams have more than 1,000 goals during that time – with City leading the way on 1,370 in total at an average of 2.42 goals per match.

Liverpool, again, are the closest with 1,123 goals at around 2.13 per game.

Erling Haaland has the most goals under Guardiola with 150 in total, ahead of Sergio Aguero who scored 124 of his City record total for the boss.

Individual honours

He has been voted Premier League Manager of the Season five times; the League Manager Association’s (LMA) Manager of the Year three times; the LMA Premier League Manager of the Year on three occasions; UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year for 2022-23 and The Best FIFA Coach for 2022-23.

Add a place in the LMA Hall of Fame and the Globe Soccer Awards Coach of the Century (2020) and it’s not a bad haul, is it?

Familiar faces

Bernardo Silva has made the top 10 list of most appearances for City ever and it’s perhaps not surprising that he has figured the most for Guardiola.

Kevin De Bruyne is second ahead of Ederson and Ilkay Gundogan with Phil Foden, currently in fifth, quickly rising up the ranks.

He has faced United more than any other team, although Chelsea will move level when we meet later in the season and could potentially overtake if we face them in the FA Cup or Champions League.

Away from the Etihad Stadium, Wembley has been the venue of most games he has taken charge.
