Guardiola, who led City to the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League trophies across the season, is on a three-man shortlist for the prestigious honour.
In emerging victorious in Turkey on that memorable June evening, Guardiola became the first manager to win two European Trebles in the men’s game.
It helped him surpass the eight other bosses who have won one European men’s Treble, including Celtic’s Jock Stein, Stefan Kovacs of Ajax, Guus Hiddink with PSV, Sir Alex Ferguson with Manchester United, Jose Mourinho with Inter, Bayern Munich’s Jupp Heynckes, Luis Enrique of Barcelona and Hansi Flick of Bayern Munich.
In the running for the UEFA award two months on, he’s joined by Simone Inzaghi, who led Inter to the Ataturk Olympic Stadium showpiece final against City, as well as Luciano Spalletti, who won the Serie A title with Napoli.
This takes place on Thursday 31 August at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.
The initial shortlist of coaches was provided by the UEFA technical study group.
The top three nominees were voted for by a jury composed of the coaches of the clubs which played in the group stages of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League, as well as coaches of the men’s national teams of UEFA’s member associations and a select group of journalists.
Meanwhile, Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne have been nominated for the 2022/23 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award.
The pair, who helped City to a prestigious Treble, are on the three-man shortlist alongside Lionel Messi.
The winner of that award will be revealed at the same ceremony in Monaco.
Congratulations to Pep, Erling and Kevin on being nominated for these awards.
