Pep Guardiola has made six changes to his starting lineup for this evening's FA Cup Fifth Round tie away at Peterborough.

John Stones, Aymeric Laporte, Kevin De Bruyne, Rodrigo, Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling all started the win at Everton on Saturday but drop to the bench this evening.

They are replaced by Nathan Ake, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fernandinho, Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus.

Kyle Walker is suspended - and Zack Steffen is not yet fit enough to return to the squad, so Scott Carson and Cieran Slicker have both travelled as backup to Ederson.

City tactics

It’s our trusted 4-3-3 formation this evening as we look to progress in this season’s FA Cup.

Ederson starts in goal, with Joao Cancelo operating at right-back and Oleksandr Zinchenko, who captians the side this evening, on the left. Those two will be charged with getting forward and adding numbers in attack.

Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake will operate at the heart of our defence, with Fernandinho screening our backline.

Ilkay Gundogan once again starts, with his guile likely to be key in unlocking the Peterborough defence, and Jack Grealish will join him as part of our central three.

And up top, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus will provide a variety of goal-scoring threats.

Our blueprint will be the same as ever: dominate possession, fight hard to win the ball back quickly and attack as often as possible.

Clearly, the crowd will be a factor, but Guardiola will have pressed home the importance of a good start.

Triple threat

City remain in three competitions – with our schedule over the next three months potentially tricky.

The prize on offer to the winner of this game is a place in the FA Cup quarter-final, and next week we will look to seal our spot in the same stage of the UEFA Champions League. With a tense title race unfolding, too, the players will be tested – both mentally and physically – in the coming weeks.

Which is why heavy rotation has been employed this evening. City have a squad with depth and quality few clubs can match. Utilising our resources and keeping players fresh for the remainder of the campaign is of huge importance.

A rare fixture

The only other time City and Peterborough have met was also at the fifth-round stage of the FA Cup.

Back in 1981, City travelled to London Road under the management of John Bond and sealed a 1-0 win en route to the centenary final.

Match stats

Peterborough United and Manchester City have met just once before in all competitions, a clash which also came in the fifth round of the FA Cup in February 1981 and ended in a 1-0 victory for the Citizens away from home.

Manchester City have won each of their last 11 FA Cup matches against sides from a lower division, netting 40 goals (and at least three times in 10 of those) and conceding just eight goals themselves.

Three of Peterborough’s previous four FA Cup ties at the fifth round stage have gone to a replay – in 1964-65, 1974-75 and 1985-86 – with the only one not going to a replay a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in 1981. The Posh’s only appearance at the quarter-final stage was back in 1965.

Only Manchester United (5) have reached the FA Cup quarter-finals more often than Manchester City (4) since Pep Guardiola came to the club in 2016-17, with round five the earliest exit they have suffered under the Spaniard – losing at Wigan in 2017-18.

Ricky-Jade Jones has scored in three of his four FA Cup appearances for Peterborough. All of these apps have been as a substitute, meaning he averages a goal once every 26 minutes in the competition (79 minutes played).

Kevin De Bruyne has assisted three FA Cup goals in his two appearances this season, with only Nathanael Ogebta (4 – all for Shrewsbury) registering more. Since his debut in the competition for Manchester City in 2015-16, the only Premier League players with more
