Phil Foden is in contention to win a second consecutive PFA Young Player of the Year award after being named on the six-man shortlist for the 2021/22 prize.

The Manchester City midfielder is up against Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe, Chelsea’s Reece James, Jacob Ramsey of Aston Villa and Crystal Palace’s Conor Gallagher for the coveted award which he won last season.

A key component in last season’s league triumph, the 22-year-old Academy graduate proved equally instrumental in City’s successful defence of the Premier League crown across the 2021/22 campaign.

Foden has also demonstrated his versatility which has seen him deployed on either flank, as a false nine or in midfield all to great effect.

As to further illustrate his superb overall impact, Foden finished the campaign with a tally of 14 goals and 11 assists across all competitions.

Foden has already been voted as the Premier League Player of the Season for a second consecutive campaign.

Now he is bidding to follow suit in the prestigious PFA Young Palyer category.

And if successful once again, Foden would join the likes of fellow 2021-22 nominee, City’s Lauren Hemp, along with Dele Alli, Wayne Rooney, Robbie Fowler and Ryan Giggs as being back-to-back PFA Young Player of the Year winners.

Foden will discover if he has triumphed once more on Thursday, 9 June, when the winners will be revealed on the PFA’s social media channels in a broadcast which begins at 19:00pm (UK).

The PFA awards are voted for by members from England’s 92 Premier League and Football League clubs.
